Family Gathering, 2019
Ludovic Boney (Quebec)
Hidden inside a temporary car shelter lies a surprising series of strangely familiar domestic scenes. As we move through this temporary structure—chosen by the artist for its resemblance to the longhouses of the Huron-Wendat Nation—we find a garage serving as a cold room for an imminent celebration, a closet stuffed with board games collecting dust, an attic piled high with outdoor equipment, a closet overloaded with coats, and a bathtub full of boots. This installation fondly recalls family gatherings in 1970s bungalows, transporting us to a warm space of memory.
As a creator of public art, Ludovic Boney is known for his immersive, sensory, and interactive installations. He has executed large-scale works for such institutions as the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Musée de la Civilisation, Quebec City Hall, the École de technologie supérieure de Montréal, and the Trois-Rivières amphitheatre.
